Heyo, Westerburg! Broadway veteran and Tony nominee Kerry Butler, known for her roles in Mean Girls, Hairspray, Beetlejuice the Musical, and Xanadu, will take the stage as Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s Mom in this summer’s upcoming production of Heathers the Musical.

The production, which will run at New World Stages from June 22 to Sept. 28, has officially found its full cast and creative team. As previously announced, Lorna Courtney and Casey Likes will star as Veronica Sawyer and Jason “J.D.” Dean. The Heathers are McKenzie Kurtz as Heather Chandler, Olivia Hardy as Heather Duke, and Elizabeth Teeter as Heather McNamara.

“I think we’ve assembled one of the greatest casts we’ve ever had for Heathers,” director Andy Fickman said in a statement. “Talk about luxury casting! We’re over the moon to have the remarkable Kerry Butler, one of Broadway’s favorite leading ladies, as Ms. Fleming and Veronica’s Mom.”

New Gen. Z faces will be on the scene in the cast, with Erin Morton, a rising senior at University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music who went viral on TikTok in April for her performance of “Creep” by Radiohead, as Martha Dunnstock. Cade Ostermeyer, who recently graduated from Pace University’s musical theatre program, will play Kurt Kelly. He was discovered for the production through its open call. Xavier McKinnon, best known for his performance on the national tour of Wicked, will play Ram Sweeney.

As for the grown-ups, Broadway veterans Ben Davis and Cameron Loyal will play Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper and Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan, respectively.

The cast also features Sara Al-Bazali (Standby Veronica Sawyer, Heather Chandler), Emma Benson (Swing), James Caleb Grice (Beleaguered Geek/Officer McCord), Louis Griffin (Swing), Devin Lewis (Hipster Dork), Kiara Michelle Lee (Young Republicanette), Brian Martin (Preppy Stud/Officer Milner), Lav Raman (Swing), Syd Sider (Stoner Chick), and Cecilia Trippiedi (New Wave Party Girl).

Ostermeyer and Sider were both discovered at the Heathers open casting call, and Fickman said the team was “bowled over by their talent.”

The creative team includes choreographer Gary Lloyd, set and costume design by David Shields, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, and sound design by Dan Samson. The production’s music director will be Mona Seyed-Bolorforosh, associate director Taylor Haven Holt, fight director Lisa Connell, and intimacy coordinator Rebecca Reaney.

Based on the 1989 cult film by Daniel Waters that starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers The Musical originally opened in Los Angeles for a sold-out run in 2013 and transferred Off-Broadway to New World Stages in 2014. The authors revised the show for the 2018 London premiere, incorporating several new songs and script changes, which will be heard in New York for the first time with this production.

“We can’t wait to get school in session for this year’s class of Westerberg High,” Fickman said.
